More than a dozen Northcote art projects have received VicArts Grants from the Andrews Labor Government including a graphic novel, creative dance and an exhibition by artists from the disability community.

Member for Northcote Fiona Richardson today congratulated the vibrant local artistic community for its success in receiving 13 of the state’s 87 arts grants.

The list of creative projects receiving grants include a theatrical adaptation of Merciless Gods – written by local resident, Christos Tsiolkas – as well as a dance tour exploring themes of body, space and robotics.

There will also be a concert series connecting musicians from different cultural backgrounds, a project that will use technology to invent a new percussive instrument, and the development of sound sculptures.

The latest round of the program – worth a total of $1.8 million – will support projects across the state, the country and the globe. Collectively, the grants will provide jobs and career development opportunities for more than 2,700 Victorian artists.

The VicArts Grants program provides grants of between $5,000 and $75,000 to support the development and presentation of new creative works as well as interstate and international touring and community-based projects. Applications for the next round of VicArts Grants will close at 5pm, Thursday 23 February 2017.
